Scripture:
“For God has put it into their hearts to accomplish his purpose by agreeing to hand over to the beast their royal authority, until God’s words are fulfilled.” ~Revelation 17:17

Observation:
The kings of the earth will abdicate their authority to the beast so that God’s purposes will happen. Even the aggrandizement of the beast, which would appear to be bad is something that God has ordained in order to carry out His will.

Application:
There are many things in life that are obviously working in opposition to God’s will. Ultimately, though, I don’t need to be afraid of them, since even obviously evil things can be allowed in order to bring God’s plans about.

Prayer:
Father, I trust You that Your will will be done on earth, at least in the end. Help me not to be anxious about the evil that I see in the world. I know that it is being allowed for reasons that I don’t fully understand, but so that ultimately Your purposes will be fulfilled.

Scripture:
“‘Look, I come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed, so as not to go naked and be shamefully exposed.'” ~Revelation 16:15

Observation:
No one knows when Christ is going to return and the end-game of the world is going to play out. We should be ready.

Application:
As a believer in Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, I am “ready” for whatever end I will see, whether it is simply my own demise or I happen to be alive when the apocalypse goes down. Either way, my eternal destiny is secured. However, am I accomplishing what I should be in whatever time I have left?

Prayer:
Father, make me mindful that I don’t have unlimited time. Remind me that the concerns of this world are not the most important. Help me to do the work that You have for me, that I might see a good return with the time I have left. I don’t want to leave work unfinished and so leave others unaware.
