Daily Bible Podcast Day 363 – Revelation 10-14

Scripture:
““If anyone is to go into captivity,
into captivity they will go.
If anyone is to be killed with the sword,
with the sword they will be killed.”

This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of God’s people.” ~Revelation 13:10

Observation:
This verse reinforces something that we all know. We are not in charge. If God’s will is for something to happen, it will happen. There’s nothing we can do about that.

Application:
I need to show patience and endurance in my trials. God’s purposes are the one’s that will prevail and anything that happens to me is in line with what God is doing. This is hard to accept sometimes, but true.

Prayer:
Father, sometimes it is hard to trust that truly everything is under Your control. The world seems like it is headed the wrong way. Help me to patiently endure and stand firm, especially when I don’t understand the big picture.

Daily Bible Podcast Day 252 – Lamentations 1- 2, Obadiah, Revelation 14

Scripture:
“The visions of your prophets
were false and worthless;
they did not expose your sin
to ward off your captivity.
The prophecies they gave you
were false and misleading.” ~Lamentations 2:14

Observation:
Israel is conquered and sent into captivity. God allowed this to happen due to Israel’s great sin. The prophets had not told the people about their sin, that they could have listened and repented. Sin can still place us in captivity today. Even those of us who are Christians can be “captive” to sin and lose the effectiveness of our witness.

Application:
How much of captive am I to my sin? I know that Christ was sent to proclaim freedom from sin and that my freedom is to be used to do good works. Breaking the hold of sin gives us the ability to do more for others.

Prayer:
Father, I know that Your desire is for me to be free from sin in order to do good works in Your name. Help me to escape temptation and see opportunities to serve others. Your kind of freedom is the only freedom that really matters. Help me to be free.
