Daily Bible Podcast Day 363 – Revelation 10-14

Scripture:
““If anyone is to go into captivity,
into captivity they will go.
If anyone is to be killed with the sword,
with the sword they will be killed.”

This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of God’s people.” ~Revelation 13:10

Observation:
This verse reinforces something that we all know. We are not in charge. If God’s will is for something to happen, it will happen. There’s nothing we can do about that.

Application:
I need to show patience and endurance in my trials. God’s purposes are the one’s that will prevail and anything that happens to me is in line with what God is doing. This is hard to accept sometimes, but true.

Prayer:
Father, sometimes it is hard to trust that truly everything is under Your control. The world seems like it is headed the wrong way. Help me to patiently endure and stand firm, especially when I don’t understand the big picture.

Daily Bible Podcast Day 248 – Ezekiel 25-28, Revelation 10

Scripture:
“By your great skill in trading
you have increased your wealth,
and because of your wealth
your heart has grown proud.” ~Ezekiel 28:5

Observation:
Tyre and its king were rich because of their trade. Their wealth made them proud and sinful and gloat over the destruction of Israel. Because of these things, God intends to destroy them as well. The verse says that they grew proud because of their wealth.

Application:
I (and really everyone in America today) is wealthy beyond the king the Tyre’s wildest dreams. He could never never have imagined the amount of food from far off places and incredible modes of transportation, the technology, etc. Has my wealth made me proud? Jesus elsewhere certainly suggests that wealth is not a road to salvation and may indeed be the opposite under many circumstances.

Prayer:
Father, I don’t ever want my wealth to get in the way of obeying Your will. Help me to live within my means and not take for granted my blessings. I know that it is only Your mercy that kept me from being born in a much poorer place and/or time. Protect me from any pride that might flare up in my heart and may I always remember that “my” wealth can’t buy me anything of eternal spiritual value.
