Daily Bible Podcast Day 361 – Revelation 1-4

Scripture:
“Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.” ~Revelation 2:5

Observation:
Jesus is speaking to the Ephesian church and is telling them that if they do not repent, He is going to take from them the light they have to draw others. In effect, they will lose the power of their witness.

Application:
What things are hindering my witness that I need to repent of?

Prayer:
Father, I turn away again from those things that are in my that are not of You. Brighten my light to the world so that others might see it and turn to You. Help me to avoid temptation and deliver me from evil.

Daily Bible Podcast Day 290 – Job 1-2, Acts 6-7

Scripture:
“At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said:

‘Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
and naked I will depart.
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away;
may the name of the Lord be praised.’

In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.” ~Job 1:20-22

Observation:
Confronted with the news of the destruction of his children and a large portion of his businesses, this is Job’s response. Wow.

Application:
I have responded to far less difficulty than Job’s in a far less worshipful way. I’ve blamed, bargained, yelled, and questioned God’s plan. I wish I had Job’s belief that God is free to do what He will and that everything will be set right in the end.

Prayer:
Father, I don’t have Job’s faith. There have been times in the last year where I have done almost the opposite of what he did. I’m trying to work on that, but I need assurance that all of this pain and uncertainty is somehow worth it. It doesn’t always seem that way.

Daily Bible Podcast Day 239 – Jeremiah 52, Revelation 1, Psalm 143, 144

Scripture:
“Teach me to do your will,
for you are my God;
may your good Spirit
lead me on level ground.

For your name’s sake, Lord, preserve my life;
in your righteousness, bring me out of trouble.” ~Psalm 143:10-11

Observation:
David’s request is to be saved, both from without and within. Not only are there those who would destroy him physically, his own tendency to waywardness would destroy him spiritually.

Application:
While I don’t have human enemies who are after my blood, I do have a spiritual enemy who, now that my soul can’t be his, is still out to destroy my spiritual effectiveness. My own natural tendencies also work against my doing God’s will.

Prayer:
Father, teach me to do Your will, for You are my God. May Your good Spirit lead me on level ground. For Your name’s sake, Lord, preserve my life; in Your righteousness, bring me out of trouble.
