Daily Bible Podcast Day 001 – Genesis 1 and 2, Luke 1

October 27, 2012 in Podcasts

“I am the Lord’s servant,’ Mary answered. ‘May your word to me be fulfilled.’ Then the angel left her.” ~ Luke 1:51-52

The angel of the Lord has just informed Mary, a teenaged girl with a fiance and who lived in a very traditional and not-so-forgiving culture, that she was going to become pregnant in a way that would be very difficult to explain. Any hopes she might have had for her relationship with Joseph were changed. Mary’s life just got very complicated. Her response is obedience. God is requiring something very difficult of her and she submits to His will. Her reward is ultimately that she is not only the mother of Jesus (who isn’t proud of their children?) but is easily the most revered woman in history.

What does God require of me? When I become aware of something that God is asking me to do, what is my response? Do I try to cut a deal or argue with God? Even worse, how often am I not just disobedient, but even oblivious to what God wants from me? Why does my own ignorance of the ultimate blessing stop me from being obedient in the hard things?

Being obedient is hard. My agenda is the one that is usually front and center. God, when you require something of me, I’m too likely to see only the sacrifice and not the reward. Help me to have faith that the reward will be worth being obedient in even the hard things.
