Daily Bible Podcast Day 281 – Ezra 9-10, Psalm 131, Luke 21

“‘But before all this, they will seize you and persecute you. They will hand you over to synagogues and put you in prison, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name. And so you will bear testimony to me. But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. Everyone will hate you because of me. But not a hair of your head will perish. Stand firm, and you will win life.'” ~Luke 21:12-19

Jesus is letting His followers know that they will face trials on account of Him. He promises that they will be given the right things to say.

One of the things I wonder is that if I’m not facing persecution, am I really following Jesus? He seems to suggest that following Him will be the source of hatred on the part of many. In the moments where I am confronted, do I trust God to speak through me to those who are against Jesus?

Father, I don’t exactly want to pray for persecution, but I do ask that You help me to act on behalf of Jesus. If that means opposition, then I pray that You will give me the irresistible words that You promised to Your first disciples. Above all, help me to do and say what You want, so that I can fulfill Your purpose for me.
