Scripture:
“Jesus looked at him and said, ‘How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.’

Those who heard this asked, ‘Who then can be saved?’

Jesus replied, ‘What is impossible with man is possible with God.'” ~Luke 18:24-27

Observation:
The rich young ruler has asked Jesus how to inherit eternal life. Jesus tells him to sell what he has, give it to the poor, and follow Him. The ruler is sad. He wants eternal life, but he is also attached to his status and his stuff. I can relate. I’m rich. So are you. A huge portion of the world’s population isn’t wealthy enough to own a computer, much less a car, or a house, etc. But what is impossible for us to do, God can accomplish. God’s grace allows even those troubled with pride over their riches to inherit eternal life.

Application:
I need to acknowledge my richness and the blessings I enjoy. I also need to loosen my grip on my money and on any status that I think I might enjoy. While I will inherit eternal life through faith in Jesus, laying down my stuff to follow Him will give others the same opportunity.

Prayer:
Father, I’m trying not to hold on to my possessions so tightly. Thank You for the blessing that they represent and help me to use them in a way that blesses others and introduces them to eternal life through Your Son. They are just tools; help me view them and use them as such. Thank You also that You did what was impossible for us by using Your Son to bridge the gap between us and You.
