Daily Bible Podcast Day 263 – Daniel 5-6, Psalm 130, Luke 3

“Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.” ~Daniel 6:10

The decree was that only King Darius could legally be worshiped for the month in question. Daniel, aware of the new law, nonetheless breaks it in order to worship God and to ask for help, even though the law was only in effect for a month. He was worried enough to ask for help, but not afraid enough to follow the decree. Daniel’s bravery eventually leads to a display of God’s power through Daniel’s incredibly frightening circumstance, but only as a result of Daniel’s faithfulness.

I worry that it would take less than the threat of Lions to hold me back from worshiping God. Would I have the same courage as Daniel, to be willing to stare down a painful death rather than rationalize waiting a month to resume worship? Am I willing to lay down my life in order that God receive glory from my ultimate act of worship?

Father, give me Daniel’s faith and courage. It would have been easy for him to rationalize waiting the month to resume his worship and I suspect that I might have done just that. But it was his courage in worship that gave You the opportunity to show Yourself in his circumstance. Give me the same courage, that in all my trials, those around me might see evidence of Your power and love.
