Scripture:
“Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:

‘Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,
you may now dismiss your servant in peace.
For my eyes have seen your salvation,
which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:
a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and the glory of your people Israel.’” ~Luke 2:13-14

Observation:
Simeon has been waiting for the Messiah his whole life and has been promised he would not die until he had seen the Messiah. Simeon waited a long time to see Jesus. I imagine this could have been frustrating for him. Even though he new he would live to see the Messiah he didn’t know when it would happen.

Application:
Even those things that God has promised are not fulfilled instantly. Simeon had to wait years for a promise to be fulfilled to him. I need to be careful about my own impatience when it comes to God’s timing.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your wonderful promises. Help me to have the patience to receive them in Your timing, not grow frustrated if they seem to me to take too long. Provide assurance of Your promises through the Holy Spirit, as You did for Simeon, and may I be too busy doing Your will to notice if Your timing is not mine.
