Daily Bible Podcast Day 257 – Ezekiel 36-37, Psalm 110, Revelation 19

“Therefore say to the Israelites, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: It is not for your sake, people of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone. I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Sovereign Lord, when I am proved holy through you before their eyes.'”

God is telling the Israelites in exile about returning them to their land, but He does not do so primarily for their benefit. He is doing it in order that His Name might be glorified.

If much of the grace that God has shown me is not even for my benefit (even though it does benefit me) then I am missing much of the point when I fail to live for God’s purposes. God’s actions are for His own glory, not mine. I am just fortunate that God shows His glory through His mercy.

Father, this is a hard idea to grasp, that while the grace You have shown me is for my benefit and because of Your love, it is also not just or even primarily for my benefit. I don’t pretend to understand, but You are God and You have a claim to everything You have created. Thank You that Your love leads to grace and redemption. I will try to make my life more and more about You and not miss the point so much.
