Scripture:
“You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.” ~Revelation 3:17-18

Observation:
Some of the Laodiceans, every one of whom is hideously poor by today’s standards consider themselves to be rich. Jesus is saying to them that their riches are worthless when it comes to what really matters, righteousness. In those days, like today, there were many who assumed that being wealthy was a sign of righteousness and that being poor was a sign of the opposite.

Application:
I am ludicrously rich compared to everyone who lived when Revelation was written. Caesar himself could not have considered microwaves, automobiles, etc. But what is all that stuff worth in spiritual terms? Nothing. True riches is found in righteousness.

Prayer:
Father, I want to be clothed in “white clothes” and I want to become spiritually rich. Money and stuff is of no worth in heaven. Help me to value and acquire true wealth, which is righteousness and obedience to Your will.
