Daily Bible Podcast Day 227 – Jeremiah 18-20, Psalm 93, John 17

“‘I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.'” ~John 17:14-15

The world hates the disciples because of the word. Jesus doesn’t pray for separation of His followers from the world, but protection from Satan while they are in the world.

Jesus wouldn’t want me to withdraw from the world any more than He wanted His disciples to. I, like them, am supposed to be on mission in the world. Since Jesus is asking for protection, I suspect that He got what He was “asking” for.

Father, too often I am disengaged from the world. It’s easier to separate myself from what I see going on. At the same time, I am often under spiritual attack to prevent me from being effective. Help to be active in the world with Your message and protect me from the schemes of Satan that would have me be ineffective or disengaged completely.
