Daily Bible Podcast Day 226 – Jeremiah 16-17, Psalm 96, John 16

June 14, 2013 in Podcasts by Nathan

“’I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.’” ~John 16:33

Earlier in the chapter, Jesus uses the analogy of a woman in labor to talk about the disciples’ pain in this world. That pain will be forgotten in the same way the new mother forgets the pain of childbirth because of her joy over her new baby.

How do I view my pain? Some of my pains are self-inflicted, others are not. Some pain is the result of sin, while other pain is just random. The pain I should be “looking for” is that which comes from doing God’s will. That suffering will produce joy.

Father, I admit that I don’t always know what to do with my pain. My whole life seems like a long time to be “in labor,” suffering for Your will. I ask again that the Holy Spirit keep working in me so that the pain I do suffer is less and less self-inflicted and more and more the result of obedience to You.
