Scripture:
“As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, ‘Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?’

‘Neither this man nor his parents sinned,’ said Jesus, ‘but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.'” John 9:1-3

Observation:
A few verses later, Jesus heals the man. He was born blind so that, by being healed, others would see God’s work. Also, since we are (and the people of that day were) commanded to care for those who had difficultly caring for themselves, his blindness also served as an opportunity for people to show God’s work by being faithful to His commands.

Application:
Even things that I see as a handicap can be opportunities for God to make himself known. My own spiritual blindness and healing to sight can bring glory to God. Additionally, those who are “handicapped” offer me a chance to show God’s love through service to them.

Prayer:
God, I am so glad that eternity is so much longer than the time that we will be here on earth and limited to our earthly bodies. So much of what people suffer seems unfair when only viewed from an earthly perspective, but we will have no limitations in heaven. Thank You for that and help me to use my “blindness” and the “blindness” of others as an opportunity to show Christ’s love to others, both in relating my own healing as well as serving those who might have trouble taking care of themselves.
