Scripture:
“Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name. But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person.” ~John 2:23-25

Observation:
The Gospels say on several occasions that Jesus knows what is in people’s hearts. He uses this in arguing against the pharisees, for instance, to show their hypocrisy.

Application:
Jesus didn’t fully trust even many of those who believed in and followed them. He was on mission and couldn’t be swayed by people who might attempt to derail Him. In the same way, I shouldn’t fully care about the thoughts of people. My primary concern should be the same as Jesus’: to fulfill the mission God has for me.

Prayer:
Father, I don’t want to be too concerned about what others think. I don’t want to cause needless offense, but I know that Your plan will offend some people. Help me to know if it is I who is causing offense or if it is not. I want to do what You ask of me and leave the rest up to You. Guide me in speaking and showing Grace and Truth.
