Daily Bible Podcast Day 208 – Isaiah 50-52, Psalm 92, 2 Peter 1

“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.” ~2 Peter 1:5-9

Peter gives us a list of qualities to add to our faith “so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.” (verse 4). I don’t know if the order of the qualities is important, but it is interesting that goodness is first. It makes sense that faith is first, since that is how one becomes a follower. The order then implies that we should begin doing good even as we are gaining knowledge.

Am I growing in goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and love? I know that I am growing in knowledge and trying to grow in self-control, but what about the others? I feel like there are so many things to keep in mind that I’m having trouble remembering them all.

Father, I have learned a lot through studying Your Word these last months. Every day there is some other tidbit of knowledge or encouragement that I know that I need, but that I have trouble remembering the next day, especially as I read more and more of them. So, my prayer is that You would work in me each day to bring me closer to who You want me to be. Bring to mind what I need that day to get better and I will try to do a better job of listening for Your voice. I won’t be able to remember everything I have read, so I’ll need Your help.
