Scripture:
“To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed: Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,

‘God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.'” ~1 Peter 5:8-9

Observation:
Peter gives instructions to the elders and the young in how to behave.

Application:
I suppose that I am a combination of these groups. I am an “elder” to those I lead in ministry and certainly “younger” to those who lead me. I must show a proper attitude in both roles.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for the leadership You have entrusted me with. May I shepherd wisely and well, leading those in my charge into a deeper relationship with You and greater responsibility in Your body. I also pray that I will maintain proper deference and respect for those in authority over me, that I will make their burden easier as well as earn greater responsibility for myself as You will it. Help me to ever become the kind of leader that You desire.
