Scripture:
“Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin. As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.” ~1 Peter 4:1-2

Observation:
The “therefore” in this case refers to the previous chapter, where Peter talks about suffering and being persecuted for doing good. We are to have the same attitude about suffering that Jesus did.

Application:
If those who suffer in their bodies are done with sin, then I wonder if I shouldn’t just say, “bring on the suffering.” This is a very nervous-making thing to say though, since suffering is certainly not fun.

Prayer:
Father, if suffering is the cost of being done with sin, then I guess I have to be ready to pay it. This is a difficult surrender, to be ready to suffer for the sake of being free from sin. Or is it the willingness alone that helps set me free? I know that cause and effect isn’t always obvious in this life, but please keep working in my life.
