Scripture:
“Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.” ~1 Peter 3:9

Observation:
God repaid our evil with the blessing of salvation through His son, so if we want to be like God, we should also repay evil with blessing.

Application:
This, of course, goes against my natural tendencies and desires. I want to seek revenge for those who have wronged me. God’s way makes perfect sense from His perspective of wanting to save, though. Repaying good for evil creates a situation where reconciliation is possible. Repaying evil for evil does not.

Prayer:
Father, I don’t usually feel like repaying evil with good. Please work in my heart so that I have Your motivations in mind. My seeking revenge or restitution is not likely to inspire anyone to repentance. Help me to always pay out good, no matter what is paid to me, so that others may see and understand Your desire for reconciliation.
