Daily Bible Podcast Day 199 – Isaiah 32-35, James 2

“My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism. Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in. If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,” have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?” ~James 2:1-4

James goes on to say that God specifically chose those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich is faith and to inherit God’s kingdom.

I’m proud of our church for this. We welcome a number of homeless and addicts each weekend. But what about me? Do I give preferential treatment to those who are put-together well? I suspect that I do. I may give a greeting or a nod to the poor, but I’m far more likely to prefer the company of those more like me, or wealthier than I.

Father, give me Your heart for the poor. Show me where to get involved in serving them and help me to offer Your grace and peace to them. I know You want to see healing in their lives, so help me to do Your will in this way.
