Scripture:
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” ~Colossians 3:1-3, 12

Observation:
Since our old self is dead, we should not be thinking about the things it was known for. We should be focused on the things that God is focused on, not the things the world is focused on: greed, lust, anger, malice, bad language, etc.

Application:
Sometimes I do better with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience than at other times. Overall, though, I don’t know that I do very well. It’s just too easy to get caught up in looking after my own needs and discounting those who are “in my way” or living in ways that I might not approve of.

Prayer:
Father, help me put to rest the concerns of this world. Help me to focus on Your kingdom and take care of things like money, so that I don’t have to worry about it. Give me understanding, patience, kindness, humility, and compassion for others, especially those that I might normally see as a hindrance or an annoyance.
