Scripture:
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” ~Ephesians 4:29

Observation:
Paul gives a set of instructions including admonition to “put off” our old selves and not be corrupted by evil desires, sensuality, anger, theft, bitterness, fighting, and malice.

Application:
I am not always good at making sure that my speech is only what is helpful for building others up. For instance, when I’m driving. Or watching the news. Or dealing with people. I need to focus more on building others up, instead of tearing them down, even if it is only my internal monologue.

Prayer:
Father, help me put off my old self with all my old ways, including the way I talk about and to others, both strangers and people I know. Help me filter my thoughts and my words so that I am building others up in Your name, instead of speaking out of my own impatience and anger.
