Daily Bible Podcast Day 154 – Proverbs 25-27, Romans 15

“If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat;
if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head,
and the Lord will reward you.” ~Proverbs 25:21-22

This verse appears elsewhere in the Bible, but I don’t remember exactly where. Solomon is saying that by giving blessings to your enemy, you add more to his guilt if he stays your enemy. His failure to respond to your kindness makes him even more guilty.

My natural desire to repay evil for evil. I don’t have any real persistent enemies, but I occassionally run across someone who is harsh or rude to me. Solomon suggests that being nice to these people is right, not just because of my heart, but because of theirs as well. They have the chance to change and if they don’t they incur more guilt.

Father, help me to love my enemies. If there is someone who is angry or harsh with me or that I might come into conflict with, help me to meet their needs so that they might see their error and repent. Help me to be more like Jesus, so that the only enemies I have are the ones that He has.
