Scripture:
“‘Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.'” ~Matthew 24:42-43

Observation:
Jesus is telling the disciples that no one but God knows when the end times will come. Jesus uses the thief (Satan) analogy that is mentioned also in the book of John, so we know Jesus used this analogy several times. The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Jesus is warning us to be on our guard; to be spiritually ready for his coming, so that we are not surprised by the thief and destroyed.

Application:
Am I ready for Jesus’ coming right this minute? I have tried to surrender to Him and am trying to bring my life in line with His teaching, but I don’t know if I am sufficiently “keeping watch.”

Prayer:
Holy Spirit, please give me either assurance that I am prepared for Jesus’ coming or let me know where I need to keep watch. Also, help me to keep watch for those areas of my life that might be an entry point for the thief. Also, help me yearn for Your return, Jesus.
