Daily Bible Podcast Day 126 – 2 Samuel 11-12, Psalm 51, Matthew 23

“Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: ‘The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.” ~Matthew 23:1-3

Jesus then goes on to excoriate them as “blind” and hypocritical. As far as I’ve read so far, the Pharisees and teachers of the law are the only people Jesus openly passes judgement on. He says they are children of hell.

How good a job do I do of practicing what I preach? I know there are areas where my public church life and my private life don’t line up, but I also try hard not to judge others, especially those outside the church. I will continue working to bring my public and private lives into congruence.

Father, I want to be a child of heaven, not hell. I know there are areas where my public and private lives don’t always match. Help me to work through those and bring them into alignment. In as much as I ever am a religious leader, help me not to earn Your wrath the way the hypocritical Pharisees and teachers of the law did.
