Scripture:
“In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea and saying, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.’” ~Matthew 3:1-2

Observation:
In order to be a part of the kingdom of heaven, repentance is required. Repentance also seems to go hand-in-hand with the arrival of the kingdom. As it descends, people repent. I wonder if the kingdom of heaven is very much present where I live. I’m not always repentant, nor do I seem to see much repentance in the churches I know.

Application:
I don’t know if repentance is the result of the kingdom of heaven coming near or if repentance is required in order for the kingdom to come near. I am not as repentant as I should be. I also don’t feel like I see the kingdom of heaven much where I live. Too much is wrong.

Prayer:
Father, send Your kingdom. So much is wrong where I am and only You can set it right. Too many delight in evil, too many are broken, too many are hungry, too many are far from you. I am too often broken, far from You, or delighting in evil. I repent of my ways. King of heaven, send Your kingdom.
