Scripture:
“But you have rejected, you have spurned,
you have been very angry with your anointed one.
39 You have renounced the covenant with your servant
and have defiled his crown in the dust.” ~Psalm 89:38-39

Observation:
A persistent theme in the Old Testament is of the Israelites turning their backs on God and Him allowing them to be enslaved or defeated for doing so. I wonder if this is the flip side of them hearing more clearly from God. Because He spoke directly to them, there are greater earthly consequences when they turn away.

Application:
I will do my best not to turn away from God. At the same time, I will be glad and thankful that He does not seem to punish our turning away as He used to with the Israelites.

Prayer:
Spirit, keep my face pointed in the right direction. Don’t allow me to turn away from the right path. Father, I thank you that Your plan of redemption means that I don’t have to repeat a blessing/condemnation cycle the way the Israelites did.
