Scripture:
“‘See that you don’t tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.’ Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.” ~Mark 1:44-45

Observation:
If anybody deserves to be famous, it’s Jesus. And yet, he very often makes a point of telling people he’s healed not to tell anyone else. Usually they don’t listen and tell everyone anyway. The result is that Jesus is unable to move freely and must stay out of the towns. All the same, people still come looking for him. It seems that this makes His mission more difficult and solitude (which he often seeks) more scarce.

Application:
I’ll obviously never have a following anything close to Jesus, no matter what I do. If Jesus isn’t a self-promoter, then neither should I be, even in my small circles of influence.

Prayer:
Father, I don’t want be a self-promoter, even if my accomplishments are your will. Help me to promote only You and Your son Jesus. May any boasting be only in You.
