Daily Bible Podcast Day 046 – Leviticus 25, Psalm 25-26, Acts 22

“For the sake of your name, Lord,
forgive my iniquity, though it is great.” ~Psalm 25:11

David makes what seems like an odd request. We would expect David to ask God to forgive his sin for David’s sake, but that isn’t what he asks. David expects the benefit to acrue to God, not just himself. I think this is one of the reasons God chooses to forgive. Doing so brings glory to Him, not just benefit to us.

I usually want forgiveness for my reasons. I want forgiveness because I don’t want to be under judgment. I need to focus more on the Glory that God should be receiving from me as a result of forgiveness. As in other things, I should be focusing on God instead of myself.

God, may the forgiveness you show me benefit Your name more than it benefits me. Don’t just forgive me, but do so in a way that brings Glory and fame to you. If it is selfesh to desire forgiveness only for myself, may I desire it for Your sake as well.
