Scripture:
“While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, ‘Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.’ Then he fell on his knees and cried out, ‘Lord, do not hold this sin against them.’ When he had said this, he fell asleep.” ~Acts 7:59-60

Observation:
Stephen is asking forgiveness for those who are murdering him. Jesus also did this on the cross. It’s like the only thing they care about is the other person’s relationship to God, even when in extreme pain and facing imminent death.

Application:
I was in a much less forgiving mood today with someone who almost caused me to be in a traffic accident. My attitude toward people who might accidentally do me minor harm is not nearly as good as Stephen’s (and Jesus’) attitude toward those presently murdering him.

Prayer:
Father, help me to forgive and not hold it against those who would do me harm, either by accident or on purpose.
