Daily Bible Podcast Day 029 – Exodus 23-24, Psalm 14, Acts 5

“Then Peter said, ‘Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.’” ~Acts 5:3-4

Peter makes it pretty clear that Ananias and Sapphira are free to bring whatever offering they choose. It’s their land and money to do with as they please. They choose to lie to the apostles and the result is death.

Whatever I choose to give, I should give it honestly. While I’m obviously not likely to be struck dead for pretending to give more than actual, this story makes it clear how God feels about using deceit to try and impress others with the sacrifice of your gift.

God, whatever I give I want to give joyfully and honestly. Not to impress others with my gift, but to please you and to keep my grip on “my” stuff loose.
