Scripture:
“When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?” ~Psalm 8:3-4

Observation:
David was marveling at the heavens and he really had no clue how vast they actually are. He had no inkling that there are hundreds of billions of galaxies with hundreds of billions of stars each. Creation is unthinkably huge, which puts the earth as an insignificant speck of rock in an ordinary galaxy of which there are many billions.

Application:
Many take the scope of the universe to mean that mankind is utterly insignificant. However, God clearly places some importance on us. He sent the heir to the throne of the heavens to be a sacrifice to set us right with Him again. That’s worthy of thanks.

Prayer:
God, I don’t get why you care so much about us, but I don’t want to forget the majesty of your creation or the huge price you paid to set me right with You again. May I never stop giving thanks.
