Scripture:
“Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come. It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble. So watch yourselves.'” ~ Luke 17:1-3

Observation:
Jesus says that stumbling is inevitable, but that anyone who causes others to stumble is in a bad spot.

Application:
I’m not sure whether to feel better about the fact that my own shortcomings are inevitable or not. In some ways it lessens any guilt I might feel. On the other hand, it isn’t exactly a happy thought to know that I’m bound to stuble again. It’s also sobering to think of my own children. Will I be an inspiration to them or will some of my actions be stumbling blocks? The desire to be better is strong in light of this verse.

Prayer:
Father, I don’t want my boys or my wife or anyone else I might have influence with to stumble because of me. Help me to be a good influence on the people in my life. Help me also not to stumble either because of my own shortcomings or the influence of others.
