Scripture:
“Lord, how many are my foes!
How many rise up against me!
Many are saying of me,
‘God will not deliver him.’

But you, Lord, are a shield around me,
my glory, the One who lifts my head high.
I call out to the Lord,
and he answers me from his holy mountain.

I lie down and sleep;
I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.
I will not fear though tens of thousands
assail me on every side.

Arise, Lord!
Deliver me, my God!
Strike all my enemies on the jaw;
break the teeth of the wicked.

From the Lord comes deliverance.
May your blessing be on your people.” ~Psalm 3

Observation:
David has actual human enemies who want him dead. His own son actually. He can live (or try to?) in confidence that God won’t let him be destroyed.

Application:
I don’t have David’s confidence. I’m not sure that David always has the confidence contained in his words. I don’t even have any actual enemies who are trying to kill me. I often wonder how often David switched between faith and insecurity, since I seem to a lot. My enemies are much less serious than David’s, but he still seems to have me beat in the faith department.

Prayer:
God, give me faith that you’ll protect me from whatever “enemies” I might have. My enemies seem to mostly reside in my own head. Things like doubt, fear, and lack of discipline. Help me to not only not fear my enemies, but to also prevail over them.
