Scripture:
“‘As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.'” ~Luke 6:47-48

Observation:
Last week, a hurricane hit New England pretty hard. I live in hurricane country. The house with the firm foundation is the one that best able to weather the storms. The intention of the builder to build a strong house is irrelevant if the structure doesn’t begin with a proper concrete foundation.

(Luke 6 is full of Jesus’ teachings. I had trouble picking. Some are easier, like this one. Others are really challenging, like v20-26, 27-36, and 37-42. I’d love to hear some other’s thoughts on them!)

Application:
Knowing Jesus’ words and putting them into practice are not the same thing. Our house got hit pretty hard with a storm this year, and I’d like to think I weathered it okay, but I know I’m not putting Jesus’ words into practice as much as I could or should. This project is part of following Him, but I need to figure out where other of Jesus’ teachings can put into action.

Prayer:
Lord, you’ve asked us to be your hands and feet on earth. Please put people in my path who have needs that I can help meet. Connect me with ministries that are doing your work where I am, so that I can put your words into action. I don’t just want to be a hearer of your words, but a doer.
