Daily Bible Podcast Day 005 – Genesis 12-14, Luke 5

Day 5
“…and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, ‘Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.’ So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.” ~Luke 5:10-11

James, John, and Simon were co-owners of a fishing company. Chances are nearly all the men in their family were fishermen as well. The capital they had invested in their boats and nets was likely significant. Jesus delivers His famous “I’ll make you fishers of men” line and the 3 partners drop everything to follow. Granted the huge haul of fish after a long night of nothing is impressive, but James, John, and Simon are surprisingly ready to give up everything they have ever known to follow Jesus.

How willing am I to sacrifice for Jesus’ call? Too often I’m tempted to skip church because I’m tired. How much of what I do for a living is me tied up in my “boats” and “nets” and not willing to go where Jesus leads?

Jesus, I wish I had as clear a call as James, John, and Simon. I know I’m supposed to follow, but since you aren’t here in the flesh, I need some guidance. Sometimes I wonder if I’m really willing to go where you ask. Please help my willingness and help me be a better follower.
