Scripture:
“At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them. 43 But he said, ‘I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.'” ~Luke 4:42-43

Observation:
Jesus tries to get away from the crowds from time to time. He really seems to think that big crowds can be unhealthy. I also strongly suspect that Jesus’ time alone was partially to reflect on His mission, which prompted Him to be moving on. When they come looking for Him, they try to deter Him from this mission. Jesus reminds them of what He’s about and then leaves. He doesn’t let the good He could still do where He is to prevent Him from going where His mission demands.

Application:
Do I hang on too long at places where I might even be doing good? Does God’s mission for my life mean that I should stay, or go? Also, I need to be sure to keep getting time alone, away from people who will make demands of my time to pray and reflect on the requirements of my mission. For now, maybe I just need to pray that God will reveal his mission for me. I don’t always feel like I know what it is.

Prayer:
Father, you have a mission for me. Make it clear to me. I don’t always feel like I know what I’m supposed to aspire to. Help me be faithful in reflecting and praying and hear your voice so that my life will be one of mission, not of bouncing around wherever I’m asked and just trying to make ends meet.
