Daily Bible Podcast Day 349 – James 1-5

October 15, 2013 in Podcasts by Nathan

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.” ~James 1:22-25

The implication is that the believer who doesn’t obey the word is forgetting who he (the believer) is. That is, we have a new identity but are living as if we didn’t.

This one often seems hard. I need to be daily reminded what I’m supposed to be doing and do them. I also need to avoid those things I shouldn’t be doing.

Father, help. Self-discipline is often something I have difficulty with. Give me Your power to not only do what I should be doing, but to avoid those that I should not be doing. I need Your hands on my shoulders to turn me the way that I should go.
