Scripture:
“Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.” ~2 Corinthians 9:10-13

Observation:
Generosity on our parts leads to God’s blessing and results in thanksgiving to God. When we give, not only do we receive blessing from God, but God gets the credit. The blessing we receive is most likely spiritual, but God is certainly capable of creating material blessing as well. I just don’t subscribe to the idea that giving to God must necessarily result in increased financial prosperity.

Application:
I have difficulty with generosity. I don’t usually feel like a “giver”.

Prayer:
Father, I don’t feel like a very generous person. I don’t give as much as I should to Your people or Your work. Give me a spirit of giving; I don’t want to miss out on the blessings You have for me, be they material, spiritual, or whatever. Break my heart, if needed, for those places and people that I am supposed to support.
