Scripture:
“I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs—how he can please the Lord. But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world—how he can please his wife— and his interests are divided.” ~1 Corinthians 7:32-34

Observation:
Paul states that the unmarried are able to devote their full attention to the Lord, while the married are not. A while ago I remember hearing a pastor say that as soon as you get married, you’ll never live up to your full spiritual potential and that you now have to balance Your witness to the world with your responsibilities at home.

Application:
I personally don’t think I have the strength to be single. There are so many ways in which being married to my wife makes me better. I need to find the balance between my witness for Christ and my witness to my family.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for the gift of my family. Even if having them means my attention can’t be fully on You, please touch lives through them as well, that my efforts might be multiplied by them. Most of all, use them to spur me on to greater obedience and effort for Your kingdom. Help me lead them well.
