Scripture:
“In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him among themselves. ‘He saved others,’ they said, ‘but he can’t save himself! Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.’ Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him.” ~Mark 15:31-32

Observation:
In a way, the chief priests and teachers of the law are right. Jesus couldn’t save himself. Not if he wanted to be obedient and provide the atoning sacrifice for the sins of the world. Besides, assuming he did save himself, it’s not likely that they would have believed as they claimed. They’d seen him heal many people and his Biblical authority was well-established. If that wasn’t enough, neither would saving himself have been.

Application:
Sometimes I hope and pray for a sign of confirmation, but do I really need one? Like the chief priests, I have enough information to have faith, but I’m sometimes just being stubborn. Not as stubborn as the chief priests, but stubborn nonetheless. I have the faith that says that Jesus is the Messiah, but I don’t always have the faith to trust and follow Him.

Prayer:
Father, give me greater faith so that I might not be even a little bit as stubborn as those who heaped insults on Jesus. I know enough, now help me to have faith that things will turn out as You have promised. Help me also to follow Jesus better, with or without “signs and wonders”.
