Scripture:
“All those who heard him were astonished and asked, ‘Isn’t he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name? And hasn’t he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?’ Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Messiah.” ~Acts 9:21-22

Observation:
Saul’s past didn’t stop God from using Him. In fact, I think that Saul’s past was exactly why God wanted Him. Who would have more credibility among Jews than a former persecutor? Saul learned really fast, and was preaching quite soon after his conversion. Credit that one to the Holy Spirit.

Application:
My past isn’t important to God. He can use any of us, no matter what we did in our previous life. Also, the presence of His Spirit can give us abilities we might not otherwise have. Sometimes I feel like I am an unlikely disciple, but then I remember that Saul was almost an impossible one!

Prayer:
Father, remind me that my past has nothing to do with my future and help me to leave that past behind every day. Speak to me and may I be as obedient as both Saul and Ananias, doing what I’m asked even when I feel uncertain or afraid.
