Daily Bible Podcast Day 288 – Nehemiah 13, Malachi 1-2, Acts 4

“Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.” ~Acts 4:29

Peter and John have just been before the Sanhedrin, where they were threatened not to speak about Jesus anymore. The threat to their lives and freedom is real, and yet the disciples do not pray for protection, they pray for boldness. A prayer for protection would have been self-focused, while the prayer for boldness is aimed at increasing Jesus’ fame.

Am I more likely to pray for protection or boldness? Am I more worried about my own safety and convenience, or in making Jesus known? Sadly, I know which is usually the case.

Father, help me to stop worrying about my own agenda and focus on making Jesus famous. Also, help me to encourage others to do the same. I will try to stop asking for safety and blessing and start asking for boldness and the courage to proclaim Jesus in ways that reach people.
