Daily Bible Podcast Day 285 – Nehemiah 7-8, Acts 1

“So they nominated two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. Then they prayed, ‘Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.’ Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.”

At first look, it seems strange that they would basically flip a coin to see who would replace Judas among the twelve. However, they chose two men who had been with Jesus from the beginning. They started with two good candidates, prayed for God to choose, and flipped a coin. I suspect either man would have been a good choice.

As long as each of my options is in accordance with God’s will and what I know to be true from the scriptures, and I pray for guidance and God’s provision, it may not matter which path I choose.

Father, too often I spend a lot of time over-analyzing my options. Help me to make sure that all my options are in line with Your will and then help me to let go, ask for Your provision, and simply choose. Most of all, help me to only pick options that are acceptable to You and then get to work.
